Charles Silk, D.D.S., Prosthodontist graduated from New York University College of Dentistry in 1983. He is also a graduate of the prestigious Advance Education Program in Prosthodontics from NYUCD. He specializes in cosmetic dentistry, implants, crowns and dentures. For the past 10 years he has been an Associate Clinical Professor at NYC College of Dentistry teaching both at the doctorate and post doctorate level. He is a recipient of the I. Kenneth Addison Prosthodontic Award and won first prize at the American College of Prothodontics annual meeting.
He has authored numerous publications, been interviewed on radio and lectured nationally in cosmetic and prosthetic dentistry. He is the past president of the New York Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, a chapter of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. He is also an active member of the American College of Prosthodontists, American Dental Society, New York County Dental Society and International Academy for Dental Facial Aesthetics.
He has taken some of the most difficult cosmetic cases and has restored them to create the most beautiful smiles. His patients include models, actors and celebrities.
Dr. Silk enjoys traveling with his family, has played professional basketball internationally and loves to ski and bike. He has traveled as far as New Zealand and Switzerland pursuing his skiing interests. He also enjoys local skiing and shows his support by contributing to the Hunter Mountain Ski Team in upstate New York.
Aside from his work in the dental arena, he is also donates his time, energy and resources to a number of charitable causes, including Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Dr. Murphy is a more recent resident of the east coast, having grown up in Denver, Colorado. Dr. Murphy found his start in dentistry by working at his mother’s orthodontic practice throughout grade school. Dr. Murphy is the most recent addition to the Newtown office of Dental Associates and is very excited about getting to know the area.
Dr. Murphy graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a dual degree in Human Physiology and Spanish Language and Literature. During his time as an undergrad, he completed a study abroad program in Madrid, Spain. He then went on to earn his Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine.
After dental school, Dr. Murphy was accepted to BronxCare Hospital in the Bronx, NY where he completed a hospital-based one year General Practice Residency. He still lives in Harlem and loves exploring all that the city and surrounding area have to offer. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, hiking, playing piano and dreaming about the next time he can escape to Spain!
Dr. Jon F. Ackerman attended The University of Virginia, where he majored in biology and was published for his undergraduate research in genetics. He attended dental school at the top-rated University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated with a DDS degree in 1988, then completed his General Practice Residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, where he was selected from amongst all his fellow residents to serve as Chief Resident for his second year. After gaining a broad experience in all dental specialties while at LIJ, Dr. Ackerman was accepted to Boston University’s prestigious Goldman School of Dentistry and obtained his degree in the dental specialty of Prosthodontics.
Dr. Ackerman has lectured extensively on many topics in dentistry, including dental care considerations of the aging patient, cosmetic dentistry, and the utilization of dental implants for patients with both simple and complex dental needs. He is one of the few dentists in the area who has comprehensively incorporated the use of dental lasers into his practice for the benefit of his patients. Dr. Ackerman has completed extensive training in dental laser technology, and can provide laser treatments for a wide spectrum of dental needs, including “No Shot, No Drill” fillings, less invasive gum surgeries that result in decreased post-operative discomfort and faster healing time, treatment of facial pain and TMJ disorders, and teeth bleaching.
Dr. Ackerman prides himself on providing individualized, personal dental care to all of his patients. While Dr. Ackerman is a prosthodontist, he is happy to deliver general dental care to all patients, including routine dental care such as cleanings and fillings. In fact, many patients who initially sought treatment from Dr. Ackerman because of their complex dental needs now consider him their family dentist for their parents, spouses, and teenage to adult children.
Dr. Mark Waldman received his BS degree in Biology from City College of New York. He then graduated with a DMD Degree from Tufts School of Dental Medicine in Boston. Dr. Waldman is a highly skilled and compassionate dentist. He loves working with entire families and creating beautiful, healthy and perfect smiles. Dr Waldman strives to make his patients as comfortable as possible, by creating an atmosphere that is warm and inviting. He was even voted “Dentist with the Best Sense of Humor” in Connecticut. When not practicing dentistry, Dr. Waldman is an avid sports fan and biker. His interests include travel and the study of history and astronomy.
